I spend most of my day as a Humanities teacher. In Humanities I challenge my students to do three things: explore, question, and challenge history. We do this by engaging in Document Based Questions (DBQs). Students spend much of their class engaging with the text and one another. We often conclude our projects by writing essays or reactions and have a culminating project (debates, movie productions, or costume design). In addition to Humanities, my students attend academic intervention or AMP courses. These classes serve to supplement instruction and allow students and teachers to work in smaller groups of ten. During these classes our kids work on fluency, comprehension, and vocabulary.
