Whitney M. Young Magnet High School (WY) has a tradition of academic excellence and ethnic and cultural diversity. Ranked the 5th best high school in the Midwest (Newsweek, May 2013), WY offers a rigorous college preparatory curriculum with two programs: The Magnet High School Program: Grades 9 - 12, with approximately 1800 students. The Academic Center: Grades 7-8, approximately 225 students Both programs require special application and entrance testing. WY also offers the Specialized Services Program for the deaf and hard of hearing, Cognitively Delayed, handicapped, and Learning Disabled with approximately 100 students. Drawing students from throughout Chicago, the school is a microcosm of the entire city.
