I just started teaching 4th grade at an elementary school this year. There are very few books in our classroom for my students to read. This project will help to build our classroom library so that my students have more opportunities to engage in purposeful and meaningful reading. In addition to that, having an expansive library can promote other areas of their life as well. For example, reading can reduce stress. Even though these students are only in 4th grade, they face much more stressors in school than I did due to a much stronger focus on high-risk assessments. Not to mention, studies have also shown that reading enhances memory, analytical thinking, and of course increases one's vocabulary. I also need some basic art materials like markers and colored pencils!
