Breakout EDU kits are learning games that create an escape room setting in the classroom. Students are given tasks to complete or puzzles to solve. These puzzles relate directly to the content that has been taught or to content that the teacher wants students to investigate. Each puzzle students solve gives them hints to help unlock a box with final discovery or solution in it. The use of Breakout EDU kits in my classroom will allow students to discover content in new and engaging ways. The content will not just be delivered to them by a teacher or book. Instead, the power will be in their hands. They will the guides and participants in their learning. These kits will allow my students to interact with and discover classroom content in new and engaging ways, but they will also foster collaboration and critical thinking skills in my classroom and for my students. Being that they are only 4th graders sometimes my students face challenges when working in teams. For example, they might not take the time to listen to another student's perspective or ideas. The tasks involved with Breakout EDU are not ones that can be solved by one or two people alone. The input and help of all students in the group is needed. Working with these kits will give students this needed practice in working with others. Additionally, these kits will help my students develop much-needed critical thinking skills. Many times in today's world it is not necessary for students to problem solve or brainstorm how to solve problems because the answers are often at their fingertips and automatic. With these tasks students will not just be given the answers. They will need to take the time to analyze and plan for solutions.
