My students love music. They love to perform, listen to and create music. They come from a variety of backgrounds and family units. Most are children of blue collar workers, and have suffered greatly from the economic collapse of 2008. The unemployment rate in the community is through the roof, and our district has the highest rate of child homelessness in our county. Even though economic times are tough, there is still great support from parents and the community for the bands in our school.
