My second grade students are like all second graders! They love school, love their teacher, and most of all, they love recess! We all belong to a school that is on a year round schedule and is located in central California. The families in our community have been hit hard in this economic downturn and it's not uncommon to learn that many have suffered job loss, foreclosures, or sadly both. I've found by keeping my students physically active and by connecting them to fitness activities, they have gained a tremendous amount of confidence and a good self image which has carried over into all other subject areas. They love to jump rope and can hop to it for 30 minutes by alternating 1 minute of jumping and resting for 1 minute. Also once a week, we walk off campus to our neighboring park and back. Total walking time is about 25 minutes and we cover just over a mile. My students love being active.
