My students will benefit from more engaging, meaningful lessons during and a sense of normalcy during this pandemic that has resulted in a condensed schedule (40% of class time) and 100% Distance Learning and enable me to become a more effective and efficient educator. Over the course of the first quarter of this first Distance Learning School year my lessons could've and could be so much fluid a In my Distance Learning Classrooms, I would like to be able to deliver lessons that feature me standing, diagramming and outlining texts in the same manner that I normally would in a traditional classroom. In short, I want to be engaged in my instruction, just as I want my students to be engaged in what they are learning. In academic circles, engagement is defined as the degree of attention, curiosity, interest, optimism, and passion that students show when they are learning or being taught. My goal in acquiring new technology is to help me provide my students a sense of normalcy and increase their levels of engagement. I'll start by using two laptops and the additional features included in Zoom that our district pays for but our district laptops are unfortunately inadequately equipped with enough processing power to create a class setting that provides students with an authentic "in-classroom" setting Distance Learning Zoom session. Students will be able to virtually "stand" in from of their peers during presentations--how cool is that?! Additionally, having the ability to provide students with opportunities to demonstrate their understanding of texts studied in formerly nontraditional method such as digital media (art, coding, video, etc.) would not only my students with identified accommodations, but help me with my personal/professional goal of playing my part to bridge the achievement gap.
