Books and reading is just as important to STEAM as it is to an English classroom. STEAM education can be critical to supporting students in their other academic areas and their overall success. Implementing read-aloud into the STEAM curriculum will tremendously benefit students. This will allow students to see how STEAM connects to their core subject areas as well as develop their literacy skills as they work to comprehend the different texts and their stories. Furthermore, these books will allow me to collaborate with other classroom teachers as they will be able to incorporate them into their own curriculums, further demonstrating to students the cross-curricular nature of STEAM. Read aloud such as these will allow students to be inspired by others and develop critical thinking skills that apply to the world around them. These books range in diversity of whom they represent and the stories they use. These books furthermore present students with different opportunities to see how the STEAM fields can apply to the world around them. Following reading these books students can begin to problem solve and creative think through solutions present in their everyday lives.
