Our school's physical education facilities and equipment are rusty, unsafe, and outdated. Being that we are a title I school, live in a rural area of the island, and lack the proper equipment funds I plan to use this equipment in the one fitness room that is shared among 5 other P.E. teachers at my school. Living so far away from the city, we do not have resources like 24 hour fitness or cross-fit gyms. I want to provide training that strays away from the traditional team sports and gives students an opportunity to explore other means for exercise and physical fitness.
Through circuit training or high intensity interval training I will use the equipment to set up stations within the fitness room for my students to use and benefit from. I will also use the equipment to teach proper form for strength training to prevent injury. Having the proper equipment will allow my students to explore different areas of health and wellness than they currently have and promote alternatives to team sports. We currently lack functioning equipment in our fitness room and just by having a new adjustable weight bench I would be able to teach a variety of strength training exercises using free weights. With the Olympic barbell the students will be able to learn proper technique and form which will help them reach our standard 1 movement forms. The count up/down clock will help them to time their mile run, alert them when to switch stations during a circuit training, and also give me manage time because I am constantly moving throughout the gym. These pieces of equipment will help me start my body conditioning unit next year. By providing this for my students, they will be able to learn lifelong skills to maintain health and wellness.
