A textbook is only as good as the content within its pages and also the condition that it is in (because a textbook in bad condition is not going to last long, and that is lost learning when a student can't read it). My students need ten new copies of our textbook History of Our Nation: 1865 to the Present. Our current textbooks are becoming unusable. They have ripped cover (some have no covers at all), and almost all have writing/graffiti/coloring on the inside of the front and back covers (if they're still attached) and on the pages between. All of those things are distracting and take away from the time that a student has to read the material, and that is lost learning.
