The composition notebooks that I am requesting will be used to practice daily writing. They will be using a variety of short mentor and exemplar pieces (e.g. passages from novels, poetry, song lyrics, tweets, and news article). The notebooks will be used to document thinking while reading complex texts. Most importantly, the notebooks will be used to make mistakes. I want the students to know that it is okay to make mistakes and to write without consequence. "When we write, a unique neural circuit is automatically activated. There is a core recognition of the gesture in the written word, a sort of recognition by mental simulation in your brain. And it seems that this circuit is contributing in unique ways we didn't realize. Learning is made easier" Konnikova.
