The students I work with are overcoming the simultaneous hurdles of poverty and developmental delays. Most also are learning English as a second or third language. Some have the added trauma of having spent their earliest years in refugee camps or having moved from one country to another. It is my responsibility to make sure these students' days are filled with the most opportunities for language exposure and enrichment as can be fit into the short school day. The students in our program benefit the most from materials and instruction that is both engaging and interesting; they most enjoy, and are engaged by, language lessons that are multisensory in nature and explore a variety of themes. The program I am requesting, Literacy Express, is designed specifically with these objectives in mind.
