My diverse group of students represent a melting pot of cultures. Most come from poverty, while many of my students are the only English speakers in their homes. They are entering middle school at a disadvantage. Some face a lack of basic needs, while others struggle with the English language. Most will enter our school 1 - 2 years behind grade level. I am tasked with the challenge of closing any gaps to bring them to an appropriate reading level. By developing a love for great books, I hope to encourage them to work hard at improving their reading skills. Some students may not have been taught the good character traits that are represented by these books.
