At Dodd City ISD we are looking to expand our students' learning opportunities by expanding the 21st. Century Skills that we are offering in our curriculum. I teach STEAM courses, and in particular robotics and the engineering design process to two to three sections of students as well as a once a week Gifted and Talented class. Our robotics program has grown over the past 3 years due to recruiting efforts in the student body, the offering of robotics courses for credit, and our success in competing in two different robotics leagues with the limited robotics platforms that we have. I generally have 12 to 16 students in a class, and currently, we are limited by the number of robot platform kits that we have. I have 2 to 3 kits for 12 to 16 students, and you generally need a kit for every 2 to 3 students. Your donation to this particular project would help me buy at least 3 more Lego Mindstorm EV3 robot platforms with expansion kits so that most of my students in any given class will be able to work on a kit. Also, depending upon the situation teams could have their own robot for in-class and extracurricular robotics competitions. Robotics is a great way for junior high and high school students to learn the engineering design process via projects based learning while developing critical thinking, teamwork, coding, lab safety, and computer-aided design skills.
