This year I am looking for a book for the entire class to read and discuss. I want a book that will not only be a page-turner but a template from which to further teach the elements of literature. I believe The Hobbit will appeal to all levels of readers in my 6/7 classroom and that it will be an "expected journey" we all take together. I want my students to learn more about the way stories work by reading a near-perfect example and being able to discuss it together. This is why I am requesting 34 copies of The Hobbit - it's a simple story with great depth. In it, there is something for all reading levels.
