Companies that set out to change the world have redefined what an office should look and sound like and adopted 21st century work environments that encourage critical thinking, collaboration, communication, and creativity. Since we are preparing students for the "real-world" and to be active participants at these 21st century companies we should provide them similar authentic experiences that are conducive to learning that also encourage critical thinking, collaboration, communication, and creativity. Flexible seating will allow my students to take charge of their learning and make choices that are best for them. Studies have shown that students who are given choices as to how they complete their work are less disruptive towards their peers, more engaged, and tend to get more work done than when they sit at a desk. My classroom is in need of flexible seating options for our 2018-2019 school year and this project will help us tremendously. When fully funded, my classroom will be receiving 12 soft seat floor pillows, 4 flex space comfy floor seats, a bean bag chair, and 3 portable lap desks so that my students will have a choice of how they want to work and be successful. By giving my students the opportunity to choose how and where in the classroom they feel that they can learn best, I will be helping create engaged life long learners. Thank you for your time and consideration in helping to fund my classroom project. Hopefully with your help, my students will be able to crunch numbers while comfy and cozy!
