These materials will make my classroom a more effective place for learning and will allow students to feel comfortable and safe in my classroom. We need markers, calculators, scissors and science literature. Many of my students come from economically disadvantaged backgrounds, and having basic supplies in the classroom means that students never feel ashamed to come to class and work their hardest. Having a classroom that has ample supplies of basics like pens, pencils, and calculators allows students to focus on their work in the class without worrying about having the supplies needed in class. I am also teaching AP Biology and would like to increase the literacy scores of my students by having them reading a fantastic non-fiction science book called Survival of the Sickest. This book is a wonderful way for students to understand evolution which is a key concept in AP Biology.
