My students often struggle to maintain their emotions of anger, disappointment, sadness, and elation. Through the use of playing a game, it helps to create a safe platform to utilize strategies in order to continue to work. The game UNO provides many opportunities for students to practice handling a variety of emotions by using calming strategies like self-talk, counting down, deep breaths, etc. During the game, students have to deal with major and minor setbacks and advancements in reaching the goal of winning the game. It also helps them to see how to interact with others when they are confronted with difficult situations. They will learn how to be a good sport and enjoy just "playing for fun!"
