The school is in the inner city of a large city in Michigan. We have roughly 800 students. The average reading level is roughly 4 grades lower than where it should be when they come to us in the 9th grade. Last year, we had a 98% Graduation rate and a 96% college acceptance rate for our senior class. Our students want to do better, but have been marginalized by a broken school district that no longer cares about it's students. The Geek Chic Club is one of the few after school programs that isn't geared towards sports or leadership. It is also the program that boasts the highest regular attendance of any club that isn't the football team. Students here clamor for things to do after school, and for opportunities to show their inelegance in ways that aren't pen and paper tests.
