Our classroom is a community. The students in it work and learn together in cooperative teams, differentiated small groups, and in a whole group setting. Our room is filled with conversations and hands-on activities. They have inquisitive and creative minds and are encouraged to make mistakes and learn from them. While I take on the role of a facilitator, they shape the learning that occurs in the classroom themselves. Our school as a whole is extremely diverse. We are located in a university town and near a medical campus. Due to our proximity to these higher learning institutions, we have a growing population of English language learners, and our school represents over 50 languages! I also teach students with special needs or who require modifications to their work in order to reach their goals in the classroom.
