My current classroom is completely empty, and I am a recently graduated, new math teacher in rural Alabama. I know that math is not perceived as the most exciting subject to most high school students, however, by helping provide my students with math manipulatives, I am going to change that. Having student-taught in this area, I know that most of my students struggle with fractions because it has never been made tangible to them, hence the fraction manipulatives on my list. I will be able to supplement crucial algebra skills in a tactile way with the algebra tiles, and the Geostix set will help the geometry "take shape". These math manipulatives will help bring algebraic concepts and geometric fundamentals to life through hands-on experiences, which are experiences that students remember and enjoy. The manipulative that students LOVE the most, and is also the most environmentally friendly is the personal sized dry erase board! It is also a quick and fun way to assess their developing algebra and geometry skills. In addition, the dry erase boards will help eliminate tons of paper and copying expenses that our school does not have the budget for. THANK YOU for making a difference in my students' lives and education!
