I have used the OSMO system successfully for many years within my classroom. They have been used to support student learning in the traditional classroom setting, as well as in after-school and summer school programs. I have been able to utilize the systems during family engagement activities that our school has held in collaboration with community partners. The OSMO systems are a very effective method for getting the practice that students need to master math concepts in engaging ways without relying on worksheets over and over. The system has a variety of learning activities that engage the learner and focuses on targeted skills, such as fact fluency, numeracy, number concepts, and money concepts. This system also provides instant feedback and correction to the students, which provides needed support and instruction. This specific purchase would help to expand the availability of these systems to my students. At this time, I only have three bases, which limits my ability to utilize these systems in my classroom. Having three more bases would allow me to have the OSMO systems utilized as a part of the small-group rotations instead of trying to find time to have the students use the system in an individualized setting. This would complement the iPads that I already have, as well as the OSMO coding blocks that I have utilized in the past. This project has increased in its importance to me this year, as I have accepted a position teaching our second-grade Dual Immersion program. I will be teaching math to two separate homeroom classes in Spanish and need to increase the small-group activities that I have so that I can focus more on individual learners.
