My special education students are truly extraordinary people. They are some of the most inspiring, and most of all, deserving students I have ever had! They truly do inspire me to put forth and give 100% each and every single day for them; anything less would be a disservice to them. My students need activities that are fun, interactive, and promote employability and independent living skills. Each of my students has a job in the class and are held to the highest expectations of performing their duties which includes cooking, serving, money handling, and washing dishes. The students do this every week as they prepare for their Coffee Cart Project. They make coffee and kolaches as well as practicing with interviewing skills, job applications, resume writing, and functional living skills. We are in need of hands-on job skill activities and technology to replace outdated, broken or missing materials for my students. Each of our students has a unique upbringing, talent, and obstacles to overcome. My Career Exploration class is designed to help students with special needs to build confidence, become independent, and be responsible citizens with strong vocational skills. The unemployment rate of persons with disabilities is very high, but with your support, we can develop my students into positive, productive, and contributing members of society with the goal of successfully transitioning to adult living. These lessons, activities, and technology all encourage the transition to adulthood. "We will ensure that all our children will learn more today than yesterday, and more tomorrow than today."
