I love teaching 6th-grade. In our district 6th-grade is in the elementary level, and we get to see them grow in many different ways, before they leave for intermediate school. The students have many challenges that they will face, and I like watching them grow through them. Effort is often undervalued in our classes today. Standardized testing has taught our students that scoring well on tests is the only way to be successful in this life. This has made learning a chore. Because of this, some students do not give their best effort, simply because they think they will score poorly on the test. I have witnessed this too often from 6th-graders in my classes. This year's class will be no exception. My school is working hard to create a positive learning environment, and we have a great staff working together to take on this challenge.
