I am a fifth year teacher of about 55 Title I students in the fourth largest city in the United States. I teach science and math, and my goal is to make the learning fun and interactive. I am very passionate about what I teach, and I want to see my students make the best out of their lives. Our public school is a mix of African-American, Latino, Pacific and Southeast Asian students; 90% of our students receive free lunch. Our students are normal students on the surface who often face tremendous challenges during non-school hours. As teachers, we often have to fight the realities of our students' low-socioeconomic status in tandem with giving them the education need. In turn, they inspire us with their resilience and enthusiasm for learning.
