I teach 8th grade science at Flowing Wells Jr. High. Our demographics are extremely diverse, but they do represent the lower socioeconomic status within our community. However, our kids are enthusiastic, engaged and determined. As a team we strive to make science fun and interesting but also relevant. That philosophy manifests in two ways. First, it means we want our students to make connections with the material that they will use at the next level and also throughout their life. We want to create kids who not only know science, but think like scientists. The second way we strive to make our classes relevant is to focus on teaching and practicing the skills that will make them successful in the "real word". How to take notes, study skills, proper technology habits. These are just a few of the topics that we instill from the beginning as the foundation for all our content.
