I am requesting 8 Chromebooks as a first step towards the ultimate goal of building a complete class set. My class sizes range between 35 and 39 students per period, so my ultimate goal is to obtain 40 Chromebooks and a charging cart for storage and security. My students are already savvy users of technology, and I wish to provide them a more engaging and collaborative learning environment that allows for more consistent self-directed and student-centered learning. We will use the requested Chromebooks for a wide variety of applications. These applications will include, among other things, hyperdoc lessons that allow students to engage with material at their own pace; digital discussion boards that promote sharing of ideas among all students instead of merely the most outspoken; digital collaboration tools such as Google Docs and Turnitin.com that enhance peer editing and feedback; and web-based interactive tools such as ThingLink and Canva that allow students to create their own infographics and other products. This upcoming school year, I would like to provide students with the opportunity to work in small groups to construct their own Digital Breakout games and then challenge their peers to solve the puzzles that they create. I believe that there is a far greater learning environment and product that I can deliver in my classroom with consistent access to the technology. I greatly appreciate your help in realizing this goal for my students.
