I teach in an rural school district in a northern state. For the most part, my students come from the mid to lower socioeconomic levels, but conservative family values are the norm. Many of them are on free or reduced lunch. Their view of the world is limited and many have never traveled outside their hometown area. My goals as a Social Studies teacher is to open the eyes of my students to the world around them so they can see they are part of a much bigger world than they believe themselves to be.
