With the educational play money, our students will explore the world of banking. They will be assigned occupations and salaries. Based on this information, they will choose apartments, utility vendors, and modes of transportation. Each student will report to a banker every day to pay bills and receive an unexpected circumstance from their teacher, such as a flat tire or a bonus for a job well done. They will also create a monthly budget and a check register showing their deposits and withdrawals. Each student will use the calculators to balance his/her budget. We hope to help develop the minds of fiscally responsible contributors to society. Future success depends on early exposure. Financial literacy is our last unit of the year, and we want this hands-on activity to have a lasting impact.
