I teach middle school age children in a low-income neighborhood/district, at a school with a high-risk population. Historically, my school has been a low-performing school, but I don't believe it is because the students aren't capable or that teachers aren't teaching. My students are very bright, it's just that they feel motivated to learn when they feel like adults are investing in them by providing more learning options. My students are some of the most resilient, dynamic individuals I have ever met. I have students that have big aspirations like being an actor, a plastic surgeon, and congresswoman. I also have students that are apathetic about school and they challenge me to think outside of the box to help them learn and grow. I want to help all of the learn and grow to value education and become lifelong learners!
