I walked into my new classroom a few weeks ago and immediately went to the classroom library and noticed something tragic. There were hardly any age appropriate books and the ones that were on the shelves looked like something pulled from grandma's basement. No offense grandma, but we all know we judge books by their covers and no matter how hard I try to teach students not to be judgmental, I can't blame them. I know my students will be so thankful to walk into a classroom with new books. Think of all those amazing memories you had in 2nd grade, help us continue creating memories. I have tilted over one of the old cubby shelves, taken off the hooks and I am ready to use it as a bookshelf. Let's fill this thing up with new books! You will see a request for an easel and grade level appropriate books. The easel will be used to display comprehension questions based on the stories we read as well as used to practice responding to comprehension questions. As second graders, understanding the story and written a response is critical. The books are all second grade level books with a variety of topics to help meet the needs of second graders, but also to appeal to different student's interests.
