With the addition of educational pods adjacent to our school to accommodate a growing urban district, our students lost the only available area on campus for recess. This year I have noticed an increased level of fidgeting, restlessness, and trouble focusing in class, which is at least partly attributable to the lack of physical outlet available to students. Middle schoolers need to move! Before the beginning of next school year, I want to equip each chair in my room with a Bouncy Band that will encourage active learning and engagement, even when sitting down. If students can't go outdoors for exercise, the Bouncy Bands will give them the option to move while they work in my classroom.
