My students love to read. However, at times, the lack of reading fluency and expression in reading words and sentences impedes their understanding of what is being read. Fortunately, our students have access to reading thousands of leveled books through RAZ Kids, which provides a listening feature. Listening to the books as they read provides them an easier access to understanding the text.
Some students learn best by listening to words and others by reading them. Why not learn through both.
Having access this requested class set of headphones will help my students listen to the books they are reading. Having the books being read to them as they are reading themselves will help them focus more in understanding the text. More time will be devoted to practicing the comprehension skills and strategies and not the decoding of words or reading with proper expression. In itself, listening to audio with headphones is a fluency lesson that students can learn from. Another great reason for having headphones is it helps students block surrounding noise disruption.
