As a teacher in a classroom and community that is composed of a lot of diverse individuals, I want to make sure my students are represented in the books that are in our classroom. Using these books during read alouds as well as including them in our classroom library will allow my students to see the beauty in diversity and the importance of acceptance. In order to be successful learners, it is important that my students feel accepted and supported. A great way to reinforce those feelings and express my support is through literature that represents and celebrates all.
