This year my school district made the change to have Social Studies be taught by Reading and Writing teachers. We have a new reading and writing curriculum and Social Studies will fit very well within that curriculum. Social Studies is such an important subject but it can get lost in the mix. My goal is to have quality resources that help my students understand their community, our country, and places far away from them. Very few of my students have traveled out of Texas, let alone Houston. I am originally from Iowa where snow is the norm for many months. A majority of these students have never seen snow. I want all of my students to have experiences and an understanding of different land forms, climates, cultures, and people in our world. These resources will help my students get exposure and a deeper understanding of the Social Studies curriculum.
