The use of culturally diverse books allows my students to enhance their exposure to new reads. The books will greatly build our classroom library as I am a first year teacher trying to build a culturally diverse library. Every book that will join our classroom library will have a purpose, whether it is for a fun read aloud, lesson support, readers workshop or for cross disciplinary activities. All of these books have my students in mind- they represent their home languages, cultures, and communities. By having these books in our classroom it would provide a hard copy, not just a digital copy of books. These books one day will be in my students hands and they will be able to choose these books to read. I hope to foster their love for reading and feeling seen in the books that they get to read.
