After going to observe a Montessori classroom and seeing the manipulation, independence, and skills that the students could do, we want to bring these skills to our students. As a special education teacher, part of my job it to prepare my students to be as independent as they can be and to prepare them for the real world. After doing some studying, I learned that Montessori education was created for special education learners. Some students in our class have difficulty communicating verbally and writing. But with the right supports in place, we can make incredible progress for our students! While our students face many obstacles in their learning, helping them develop skills will turn their weaknesses into strengths so they are able to express their own understanding and apply their knowledge to contribute to their community.
