  • Growing MMS Grows - Help Grow Our School Garden Program

    Funded Feb 12, 2023

Thank you so much for supporting our garden program again and making a HUGE difference in our MMS Grows program. We had a great success this summer and we were able to host our second summer garden club!

The garden fencing made a great impact and defined our garden space while adding vertical growing trellis for vining plants. We were also able to add a garden bench with potted plants to jazz up our garden space.

With your donations, we were able to continue growing through the hottest Texas summer and are now serving our students in the fall growing season. I can't thank you enough for the continued supported and helping me to share my passion with my campus.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Anderson

  • MMS Grows - Gardening and Campus Beautification

    Funded Sep 8, 2021

Thank you so much for your generosity and investment in our garden program, MMS Grows, at McDonald Middle School!

With your help, we were able to successfully set up four 4'x8' raised garden boxes with an abundance of soil and seeds (the cart that y'all provided was crucial in the set-up!). We have an amazing and dedicated crew of students who were so excited to learn about gardening and get their hands dirty! We have had to make some recent soil amendments and are working to get established plants, hopefully before Texas's winter hits. We will be able to start spring seedlings with the seed starting kits that y'all funded though!

We are looking forward to continuing to grow this program and hopefully receive other sources of funding to expand the garden space (we already have district permission to do so!!).”

  • Art Nugget - Creating A Flexible Environment

    Funded May 11, 2019

The nugget is such a fun addition to the various flexible seating options that I have for the students throughout the room. My students were so excited and curious when I was opening the box and setting up the nugget. I placed it in our chill out corner and have already had some students utilize this area. As the year progresses and my student led are more independent I plan on allowing them to have more choice in their seating and the nugget would be a great option for students who struggle in a conventional seat!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Anderson

  • Relevancy: Making Reading Fun in the Art Room

    Funded May 27, 2019

Thank you so much for donating new and relevant books to our art classroom. Our school is pushing reading this year and are giving us many opportunities to read books to our students during various times of the days. I have already enjoyed seeing students lights up when we take a minute to read and take a break from "school".

The books, that you have donated, have already sparked such an interest in my students! There have been several students, who already claim they can't draw, find our How-To Draw Comics (Marvel style) By Stan Lee and have worked through their doubts. I've also had some students that want to take pages from Wreck This Journal and turn them into our weekly warm-up.

Again, these books are going to make a huge difference in our classroom library! Thanks so much for your support of my students :)”

  • Mustangs Go Digital

    Funded May 5, 2019

Thank you so much for quickly funding this project! My students were so pumped about receiving the Wacom tablets and light boxes to experiment, learn, and create digital art pieces.

The Wacom tablets are amazing and easy-to-use tools that students can transfer traditional drawing/painting skills and make them on the computer. Because the digital arts and animation field is growing, it is imperative that my students have access to tools that will provide them with career skills. Light boxes are a must in any art classroom! These light boxes allow students to transform sketches into final designs. Fun fact: Animators and tattoo artists use light boxes.

As soon as I opened the box, students were swarming me and talking about how they wanted to set up the tablets and light boxes and start creating. I would like to thank you again for your continued support of my classroom and students!”

  • MMS Believes in Forever Memories

    Funded Mar 1, 2019

We are so pumped to have received our camera. My students were elated to open up the package and discover all of the cool pieces that go along with our camera! Because we are building up our art and yearbook program, this camera (and all of the amazing accessories) will help students learn skills that can lead to careers. Digital photography is always in demand, so providing my students with the opportunity to learn this skill is so beneficial to them.

My students are excited to have a piece of technology that they normally would not be able to purchase. Most of my students have only completed digital photography through a phone screen, so the prospect of creating art and capturing moment through a more "professional" tool is refreshing.

Because I haven't started the yearbook class yet, I haven't had the opportunity to allow specific students to learn and handle photography. I am planning on creating a class where students rotate through stations and will spend a 3 week time investigating and practicing their digital photography skills. Students will also be required to attend games and events to capture important moments for our school. I am so eager to see my students blossom and find their niche in photography!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Anderson

I am currently in the process of interviewing students for the yearbook class. The majority of my students have taken photos from their phone, but have never used a digital camera. I think that the art of digital photography will allow these students to tap into more critical thinking skills, composition development, and artistic endeavors. This camera will provide, not only a tool to capture memories, but also an opportunity to learn skills that could lead to a career. Students will be able to invest back in their school by preserving moments that made a difference to them and sharing them with their peers.
