My students are at a high performing charter high school in Los Angeles that aims to prepare every student to be college-ready. I teach French to a predominately Spanish-speaking community . This gives my students not only an eye-catching transcript to get them admitted to the college of their choice, but also the chance to explore an interesting new language together that is outside of their usual realm of experience. Most of our students choose to commute from far and wide via public transportation in order to create a better future for themselves. These students from low-income backgrounds are often the first in their family to go on to attend college. In my second year working at this school with a dedicated administration and staff on a very limited budget, I have seen our hard work pay off as we nurture students as caring, hardworking learners. I have been impressed by my students commitment to their own education and look forward to seeing everything they are capable of.
