I teach in a middle-school setting that is considered to be an at-risk school. We reside in an urban area an hour away from our state's capital. Our academic classes consist of four seventy-minute core classes and two forty-five minute electives. Art, music, shop, and gym are offered as electives to enhance math, language arts, science, and social studies. Many students have limited experiences due to lack of funding in their homes. Our students often ask why they need to know content that is being presented in class, therefore we encourage them to explore the world and apply content to their natural lives. They love to incorporate technology whenever possible because they find it makes learning easier. As a teacher, I am challenged to keep my classroom up-to-date with the technologies the students will need to use when they become active members of the community.
