Flexible seating allows students to make intentional choices about their learning space. Students choose a location and flexible seating option that fits their unique learning needs. Students can choose to work in a variety of spaces in the room including dry erase tables, standing desks, lowered desks with floor cushions, wobble stools, exercise balls, and more. These options provide students the opportunity to take ownership in their learning by allowing them to be comfortable and engaged. Research shows that giving students autonomy in their learning is motivating and results in higher engagement and participation.
Implementing flexible seating in my classroom has created a safe, comfortable, and inviting space for my students to learn at their very best! The products that I have selected will enhance the flexible seating that I have created in my classroom by affording my students more options and alternatives to traditional classroom choices. The bean bag chairs give my students a comfortable space to read. The lap desks allow my students to sit comfortably on the floor and work. The sensory items allow my students to engage in movement so, they can refocus their body and mind before engaging in challenging concepts. Each item chosen has a unique purpose in the creation of a flexible classroom!
Creating the opportunity for my students to utilize flexible seating and sensory options has entirely changed the climate and culture of my classroom and I'm excited to see how these new options will help us continue to FLEX our minds and our muscles!
