I currently teach ESL Science where my English Language Learners receive sheltered instruction and many begin with little or no English proficiency. We are a Title I and III newcomer school which is housed within a Title I high school. Our school is located in an at-risk community where poverty and a lack of education prevail. The majority of our student body is on free-reduced lunch. The student body consists of both middle school and high school students. Despite their cultural differences, emotional frustrations and on-going challenges, many of our students are bright and come with an intrinsic motivation to succeed.
