We are located in a large city in an area that has low income properties and housing. We provide weekend meals to our children along with a monthly Farmers Market food pantry to our families. In addition, our school has the highest immigrant population in our district. We have many students in our population whom speak English as a second language and have very little opportunities for real life experiences at home. The children I help service are a part of an after school hip hop club that focuses on the elements and origins of the culture, as well as the diversity in learning styles, teaching styles, personality, etc. The students are 5th and 6th grade students that have expressed interest in the culture, are passionate about music, and eager to discover new ways of learning.
