By supplying my students with a wealth of new books and choices, they will have the freedom to take control of their reading lives. With our challenge to read 40 books in a school year, giving the students access to more and more books will give them the tools for success. My hope is that these kids will glimpse a small piece of what they can accomplish! By broadening my class library with these novels and poems, we can ensure that their school year is covered in books and reading! To accomplish our goals, the students will have 15 to 20 minutes of independent reading time in class daily. They will track their progress in reading notebooks. These notebooks will also contain written responses to their novel selections based on daily class lessons or questions provided to them.
