I am a first-year band director who is starting at a school that has not had consistency when it comes to their band program. I AIM TO CHANGE THAT! I have had the opportunity to work with the students as a substitute teacher prior to accepting the position and they yearn for a passionate music educator. I believe it starts with the classroom environment! I am inheriting a classroom that has little to no love in it at all. Bare white walls, no windows, etc. Just chairs, stands, and a teachers desk. These items that I have placed in the cart will help me foster an environment that is fully conducive to nurture my budding musicians! I've included supplemental materials for music learning like musical staves, notes, and note names. I've also included music artworks depicting musicians so that they can envision themselves as the painted musicians. When they walk through my classroom door on the first day of school, I want them to know "from the jump" that Mr. Blanding is different and is here to stay!
