These iPads will be used by English as a Second Language (ESL) students in grades K-8 to develop and assess their progress in English as their second language. Students will use language apps in small group settings and individually. The ability to access technology will allow students to connect what they are learning to the real world. Students will be able to do research for classroom assignments. As English Learners (EL), the students will be able to practice listening, reading, writing, and speaking in a small environment where they feel secure. As the teacher, I will be able to access a district program to progress monitor ELs.
The technology provided by these iPads will help connect the EL's first and second languages. EL's receptive skills of listening and reading will be enhanced by increased opportunities to practice them. ELs may know content knowledge, but lack the ability to express that knowledge. Students will be able to build their confidence by practicing the productive language skills of speaking and writing as well. I will be able to better progress monitor student progress and tailor instruction to individual areas of need.
