They live in a rural community where poverty and lack of life experience is the norm. Some of them were not exposed to English until they began school, and all of them have limited exposure to rich language and reading materials. They are 6th, 7th and 8th graders who have struggled with reading for a very long time. They are discouraged and feel "stupid." But they aren't stupid, they are intelligent and full of potential! They just need a little extra help. (These pictures are from when my students were in 3rd grade, but I will be updating them soon.)
