To give a brief explanation of my school, we are predominately English Language Learners, Title I, and 100% free and reduced price lunch. Many of my students haven't had the chance to leave their city or even travel to a certain location within the city some distance away. Nonetheless, my students are inquisitive, passionate, and thoughtful. They push me to be the best teacher I can be every single day and have just as much potential as any other child their age. Last year was my first year as a teacher (4th grade); I was nervous, excited, and scared all in one. It didn't take long, however, for me to realize how astonishing my students were and every day I was happy to be at work. They want and care about learning, but it just isn't always in the sit-at-a-desk-and-let-me-lecture-to-you kind of way. They enjoy getting their hands dirty and making mistakes because it means they've learned something. I got the chance to roll up to 5th grade and owe it to my students to give them the education they want so badly.
