Students are expected to read throughout the school day as well as a minimum of twenty minutes a day at home. Access to books is extremely important. Providing a classroom library with interesting books of various genres is a must in keeping adolescents engaged and motivated in reading. While my classroom library is a constant work in progress, resources are limited as a first year teacher. I want to create a difficult choice for students in their book choice not because there is not anything they want to read, but because there are so many books they want to try. My goal as a teacher is to create a classroom of lifelong readers. I am able to obtain my goal when I can provide ALL students with access to great books. Studies show that students who excel at reading become more successful in life. Contributing to my classroom library will put my students on the path to success and allow access to those who wouldn’t have it otherwise.
