Our kindergarten team strives to incorporate technology in most lessons throughout the school day. However, our classrooms are lacking necessary technology that would engage our students and allow them to flourish academically. Each kindergarten classroom currently has three or four desktop computers to share among 16-19 students. This limited amount of technology hinders our students from engaging in rigorous lessons to their full potential. By donating to our project, you will be helping our students stay current in an increasingly technology driven world, which will ultimately help to increase their academic achievement. Appropriate materials in the classroom will provide exposure and experience in order to be successful. Our students need iPads to help reinforce necessary skills being taught in the classrooms through a fun and interactive way. The students will be using these iPads during a technology center in both literacy centers and math centers. The iPads will allow the students to reinforce letter identification and letter sounds, read books or have books read to them, and work on number recognition and addition and subtraction practice -- just to name a few activities! The iPads will also be used for students to research information to assist them in their animal research writing projects. The opportunities to use iPads in the classroom are endless! Our population reflects the need to use additional resources to enhance language development. Over half of the students demonstrate limited English proficiency. iPads will provide an opportunity for visual learning that will support and increase vocabulary development. We have seen the positive impact that technology has in our classroom through the limited resources we have currently. We are excited to see the benefits of having additional resources in our rooms!
